1.Why can I not get DC Bead LUMI™ immediately ?

Our first priority is to gain feedback on clinical use from a small group of physicians in a non-commercial setting. Once we have this, we will extend the availability to a wider group of physicians prior to full European commercial launch.

3. What size is DC Bead LUMI™ available in?

DC Bead LUMI™ is currently manufactured in two sizes :

70-150 µm (equivalent to DC BeadM1™) and 100-300 µm.

The same stringent manufacturing and quality processes used by BTG ensure that, as with DC Bead®, the beads are precisely calibrated to the labelled sizing.

Unlike DC Bead®, DC Bead LUMI™ do not shrink when loaded.

4. What makes DC bead LUMI™ radiopaque?

DC Bead LUMI™ has been developed from the proven core chemistry used in DC Bead® with the blue dye replaced by a covalently bonded iodine to offer radiopacity.

5. Do I need any specific imaging technique or protocol to visualize DC Bead   LUMI™ ?  Do I need to recalibrate my equipment?

No. Imaging protocols that visualise soluble iodinated contrast medium are suitable for DC Bead LUMI.

There is no need to recalibrate the equipment, although over time imaging manufacturers may issue guidelines or protocols to optimise visualisation during LUMI-TACE procedures.

6. What are the benefits of a radiopaque bead?

BTG and many of the doctors we have spoken to are very excited by the opportunities offered by being able to able to actually visualise rather than infer the location of the beads during the procedure and at follow-up. However, we will not be making any specific statements regarding benefits and role in clinical use until we have gathered feedback from the early clinical experience phase.
